Barry Wellman says, in “From Neighborhood to Network, “ that :CMC has increased the frequency and intensity of overall contact. Rather than replacing face-to-face contact, CMC adds to it, filling gaps between the fuller range of information and emotion in interpersonal encounters.” Discuss this idea in terms of your experience in our networked classroom, blogging discussions, and website building. Do you agree with Wellman? In what particular ways does CMC affect your experience of learning in our course?

the myspace generation

This week I would like you to discuss the article "The MySpace Generation" that is linked off the weekly assignments page in our online classroom. Explore some of the online communities that are mentioned in the article. Then, choose any aspect of the article that appeals to you and zero in on it. That is, analyze one particular aspect of the article, using quotations from the article as illustrations for your assertion, and also hypertext, if you wish. (Try not to repeat what someone who posts before you has said...build a discussion). Thanks! :-)

Last week our readings were all on the web. This week they were in our print textbook. What observations can you make about your experience of the print reading and the online reading? Did you approach the texts differently. If so, in what ways? Did the texts affect your knowledge/learning in any different ways? If so, in what ways? Comment specifically on two or three examples from our reading. Include at least one quotation to support each example.

Okay. I think I have troubleshot all the blog links in WebCT under Table of Contents. If you check a blog and the link isn't working, please let me know.

I had a question about appropriateness of content on our blogs. Remember that we are an online classroom community. If it wouldn't be appropriate to say in our onsite classroom, it wouldn't be appropriate to say here. Also, remember the principle of "radical respect" for differing points of view. The persona you are creating here is an academic persona...

just starting out

Well, I like it that our entire honors class is blogging. My whole sense of audience is different than in either a traditional classroom, or my WebCT classes. Right now, I am thinking that perhaps we will post our hypertext essays as links off our blogs. This feels like a very friendly environment.
